The power of good food choices to improve your health

Hippocrates, the "Father of Medicine", said “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.” (If only modern doctors listened to their "dad".)

When people stop eating candy bars and donuts, they consider themselves “on a diet”. But actually, we need to look at this from the other perspective. Eating real food like broccoli and fish is “just eating”. Eating candy bars and donuts is not eating, but is “treating”. The problem with constant treating is that pretty soon you get tricked into being addicted to non-foods that put on weight, clog our digestion and trigger almost insatiable cravings for more treats. In fact, many of our junk food treats are so full of chemicals that they are like drugs in their addictive qualities. No one ever comes to me and says they just cannot lay off the salads and roasted chicken. Sugar is such a refined food, devoid of minerals or other nutrients, that it could be considered to have a drug-like effect. It has been found that Oreo cookies are as addictive as cocaine in rat studies. http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/16/oreos-as-addictive-as-cocaine-in-lab-rat-study/  And female rats eating the equivalent of three cans of soda were found to have both earlier mortality and fertility issues.

You may have to train yourself to get used to real food again. We can help make that transition easier.
